ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (1948) B/W 83m dir: Charles Barton
w/Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange, Lenore Aubert, Jane Randolph, Frank Ferguson, Charles Bradstreet, Howard Negley
From The Movie Guide: "Hilarious spoof of the classic Universal horror films of the 1930s and early 40s [FRANKENSTEIN, DRACULA, THE WOLF MAN, etc.], with Abbott and Costello playing railway porters who unwittingly deliver the 'undead' bodies of Frankenstein's monster (Glenn Strange) and Dracula (Bela Lugosi) to a wax museum, where the bodies are revived. Thus awakened, Dracula becomes intent on replacing the catatonic monster's brain with dim-witted Costello's, because it would make the beast easier to control. Lawrence Talbot (Lon Chaney, Jr.) attempts to help the boys, but he's got problems of his own: he turns into a wolfman whenever there's a full moon. Horror buffs will note that Chaney, Jr., who had played the Monster in THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN, fills in for Strange in the shot where the Monster tosses actress Lenore Aubert out a window. Strange had broken his foot in an accident and, rather than lose three days of shooting, Chaney volunteered to don the makeup once again. After this film's considerable success at the box office, Abbott and Costello made seven more pictures in which they 'met' Hollywood monsters, but none were as lively and entertaining as this one."
