ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS (1955) C widescreen 89m dir: Douglas Sirk

w/Jane Wyman, Rock Hudson, Agnes Moorehead, Conrad Nagel, Virginia Grey, Gloria Talbot, William Reynolds, Jacqueline de Wit, Charles Drake, Leigh Snowden, Merry Anders, Donald Curtis, Alex Gerry

Douglas Sirk's melodramas rule! And this is FilmFrog's favorite of all his films. In this one, a lonely widow risks social disapproval when she falls in love with her gardener. ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS was made because of the success Sirk had with MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION two years earlier. The same team was assembled: the actors Wyman, Hudson, and Moorehead; Sirk's director of photography, Russell Metty; producer, Ross Hunter; etc. This film not only duplicated the success of the earlier one, but it went beyond it to an artistic level that is awesome indeed, considering the restraints under which Sirk worked at Universal Studios.
