BARRY LYNDON (1975) C 187m dir: Stanley Kubrick

w/Ryan O'Neal, Marisa Berenson, Patrick Magee, Hardy Kruger, Michael Hordern

Kubrick's tenth feature film is a lavish, visually ravishing adaptation of the Thackeray novel. Lyndon (O'Neal), passive but likable Irish lad, becomes a socially fashionable peer after his marriage to a rich widow (Berenson, who is exquisitely photographed at every turn). O'Neal's unemotional stoicism lends itself well to the role of the naive fledgling who quickly learns how to become a successful opportunist.
