BOUND FOR GLORY (1976) C widescreen 148m dir: Hal Ashby

A generally excellent biographical film about Woody Guthrie, one of America's greatest folksingers. Woody's left-wing politics have been toned down somewhat in this, the first major screen story of how he left his dust-devastated Texas home in the 1930s to find work, and discovered the oppression, suffering, and strength of the working people of America during the Great Depression.
BOUND FOR GLORY won two Oscars: Best Cinematography (Haskell Wexler) and Score (Leonard Rosenman). It was also nominated for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay (Robert Getchell, based on the autobiography of Woody Guthrie), Editing (Robert Jones, Pembroke J. Herring), and Costume Design (William Theiss).
