GEORGY GIRL (1966) B/W widescreen 100m dir: Silvio Narizzano

w/James Mason, Alan Bates, Lynn Redgrave, Charlotte Rampling, Bill Owen, Clare Kelly, Rachel Kempson, Denise Coffey, Dorothy Alison, Peggy Thorpe-Bates

A very touching and thoroughly entertaining comedy-drama with top-notch characterizations played superbly by the cast. Lynn Redgrave, in the title role of the frumpy young British woman who lives life vicariously through her swinging London roommate, is quite marvelous and deeply moving.

From The Movie Guide: "Mason is wonderful as the older man, harried by a nagging, sickly wife. Redgrave shot to stardom in this role, and rightly so. She shows her range as she grows from a self-conscious, uncertain waif to a woman with responsibilities. A charming movie which aided the careers of all concerned, GEORGY GIRL was also helped by the Oscar-nominated title song, which became a hit for the Seekers on two continents."

GEORGY GIRL was nominated for four Oscars: Best Actress (Redgrave), Supporting Actor (Mason), Cinematography (Ken Higgins), and Song ("Georgy Girl,' by Tom Springfield and Jim Dale).
