I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG (1932) B/W 93m dir: Mervyn LeRoy

w/Paul Muni, Glenda Farrell, Helen Vinson, Noel Francis, Preston Foster, Allen Jenkins

A scathing indictment of life on a Southern chain gang which has become a film classic. The movie and the book on which it was based (Robert E. Burns' autobiography was scripted by Howard J. Green and Brown Holmes) caused quite a stir at the time and even led to some investigations. Muni is magnificent in the lead, and he's ably assisted by a fine cast.

From Variety 's review of the film: "I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang is a picture with guts. It grips with its stark realism and packs lots of punch. ... Muni turns in a pip performance."

Oscar-nominated for Best Picture, Actor (Muni), and Sound.
