THE INFORMER (1935) B/W 100m. dir: John Ford

w/Victor McLaglen, Heather Angel, Preston Foster, Margot Grahame, Wallace Ford, Una O'Connor, J.M. Kerrigan, Joe Sawyer, Neil Fitzgerald, Donald Meek

A brilliant, deeply moving film directed superbly by Ford, that has, in the decades since the film was made, become a true cinema classic. Set in Ireland during the time of the Irish rebellion, it concerns a slow-witted traitor who turns in a compatriot and suffers the pangs of conscience.

THE INFORMER won four Oscars: Best Director, Actor (McLaglen), Screenplay (Dudley Nichols), and Score (Max Steiner & the RKO Radio Studio Music Department). It was also nominated for Best Picture and Editing (George Hively).
