From Georges Sadoul's Dictionary of Films: "Satan, through the ages, betraying Christ and Marie Antoinette, becoming Grand Inquisitor, and Commissar of a group of Bolsheviks in Finland during the Civil War. This film, an attack on the French and Russian Revolutions, contains some beautiful moments, notably the traveling shot in an inn. The best episode is that of the Passion of the Christ, produced in a natural and direct style in the open air."
