MARNIE (1964) C widescreen 129m dir: Alfred Hitchcock
w/Tippi Hedren, Sean Connery, Diane Baker, Louise Latham, Martin Gable, Bruce Dern
Hedren gives a subtle, moving performance as a frigid kleptomaniac who is tortured by her past and then sexually blackmailed by an aggressive widower (Connery) who has fallen in love with her. As much as Hitchcock protests this to be a film about a man who's in love with a thief, the main focus is really a moving indictment of the negative effect the patriarchal establishment wields over one woman's life and the choices she must make to become acceptable to society.
