OBSESSED WITH 'VERTIGO': NEW LIFE FOR HITCHCOCK'S MASTERPIECE (1997) C widescreen 30m dir: Harrison Engle

Fascinating documentary about the restoration of Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 film VERTIGO, long considered to be the crowning achievement in the director's spectacular career, but prints of which had deteriorated over the years. Robert Harris and James Katz, the restorers of the film, discuss and illustrate how the film was brought back to its original color and clarity of image, as well as how the soundtrack was restored. There are also interviews with principals associated with the the making of the film: actors Kim Novak and Barbara Bel Geddes, writer Samuel Taylor, art director Henry Bumstead, associate producer Herbert Coleman, script supervisor Peggy Robertson, and Alfred's daughter Patricia Hitchcock. The film is narrated by Roddy McDowall, with additional commentary by contemporary director Martin Scorsese.
