RACHEL AND THE STRANGER (1948) B/W 93m dir: Norman Foster
w/Loretta Young, William Holden, Robert Mitchum, Gary Gray, Tom Tully, Sara Haden
Frontier wanderer (Mitchum) stops at the cabin of a backwoodsman (Holden) and his wife (Young), who is a "purchased" bride and little more than a servant to Holden and his son. Not a great film, but an entertaining romantic drama that's a favorite of FilmFrog's. Young gives a charming, very solid performance; and Mitchum is terrific as a gentleman who's also a gentle man, combining sensitivity and sexuality in equal measure.
