ROBERT BENCHLEY SHORTS (2002) B/W 90m
From the TCM Viewer's Guide, Now Playing: "MGM series featuring the popular humorist, former Vanity Fair editor, New Yorker writer and resident wit of New York's legendary Algonquin Round Table. Bentley's topics include How to Behave (1936), How to Train a Dog (1936) and Romance of Digestion (1937)."
From the 1997 edition of the CD-Rom Cinemania: "Benchley's sophisticated wit found a delightful outlet in films. Between 1928 and 1945 he wrote and appeared in an outrageously funny series of short subjects in which he lectured on a variety of improbable topics, such as THE SEX LIFE OF THE POLYP, THE TROUBLE WITH HUSBANDS, and HOW TO TAKE A VACATION. He won an Academy Award for best short subject (comedy) for one of those 10-minute comedies, HOW TO SLEEP (1935). Made many appearances in feature films, usually as a bon vivant or a double-talking, amiable pest. He also collaborated on many screenplays."
Benchley was born in 1889 in Worcester, MA, and died in 1945.
