SUPERMAN II (1980) C widescreen 127m dir: Richard Lester

w/Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder, Ned Beatty, Jackie Cooper, Sarah Douglas, Jack O'Halloran, Valerie Perrine, Susannah York, Clifton James

One of the very few movie sequels that is better than the first film (SUPERMAN), thanks to the droll touches supplied by director Lester (A HARD DAY'S NIGHT). The plot this time involves bad guys from outer space who are armed with deadly-to-Superman Kryptonite.

From The Movie Guide: "Poking fun at its American mythos, but never descending into camp comedy, this sequel makes for a wonderful time. ... The movie hits full stride as the villains come to take over Earth, not knowing their fellow Kryptonian is that planet's hero. The result is an especially fun movie and a rare instance of a sequel that not only equals, but even betters, its original. The same cannot be said for SUPERMAN III or SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE, despite Reeve's continued command of the role."
