WAR GODS OF THE DEEP (CITY UNDER THE SEA) (1965) C widescreen 84m dir: Jacques Tourneur
w/Vincent Price, David Tomlinson, Susan Hart, Tab Hunter, Henry Oscar, John Le Mesurier
Edgar Allan Poe's City Under the Sea is beautifully translated to film by director Tourneur (CAT PEOPLE, IWALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, THE LEOPARD MAN) in his last production. (Scripters Charles Bennett and Louis M. Heyward helped, too, Bennett being a longtime collaborator of Alfred Hitchcock's.) Price has one of his most effective roles as the ruler of an ancient underwater domain who sacrifices the local villagers and sends his gill-men to capture a woman who reminds him of a lost love.
